Dating You Hating You, By Christina Lauren The StoryGraph

The story didn’t feel strong to carry through. I wanted to continue on just to see if I got to see a glimmer of Christina Lauren but was left feeling really disappointed. All their previous books have been brilliant and I even re read some and Also bought the audio. I really hope their next project goes back to their sassy genius writing making us swoon and laugh at the same time.

The chemistry between the 2 characters was sizzling and there were some steamy bits in this book as well. The thing with Carter and Evie is that if you share the same profession with your significant other, there will be competition one way or another. It’s not like after they met they are at each other’s throats, there is a reason for the tension and I liked that. Everything that happens in the book happens for a reason and it made the book easy to read. Gah, the things out of Carter’s mouth could make me melt. Not to say, there weren’t times when I was thinking what are you doing, Carter?

Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren

Certainly not on par with the last book I’ve read of this pair. I have about three more Christina Lauren books in my shelf and for sure I won’t be going back to them any time soon. This book showed me why I left rom-com NA books in the first place. I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed this! I loved the aspect that it follows 2 Hollywood agent’s and really liked reading about their job!

As a textbook example of the romantic comedy ideal, it renders itself so packaged that it no longer even feels like a work of fiction… more like a work of a storyboard. Now that I’ve read it, I think it’s safe to say that the only relevant similarity is the competing against each other aspect of the story. And that’s only a little part of what Dating You/ Hating You is about. At first, before I realized it to be one of the book’s themes, I was just annoyed with how her boss was treating her — I thought his misogynist treatment of her was being used as a way to stir up drama.

The biting dialogue and delicious tension between these two characters is unreal, and the political thrill of this book can’t be missed. I’d spied a lot of comparisons between this and The Hating Game so was very tempted by it but yours is not the first negative review I’ve come across.

Carter and Evie meet through mutual friends at a party. I felt like it was a new and refreshing profession to read in a romance book. I’m not sure how realistic the storyline is because I know nothing about that world, but I felt like I learned a lot and it was just fun to read. I was so looking forward to reading this book. I’m a massive fan of Christina Lauren but this book didn’t seem to have their feel on it. I felt it was confusing in the beginning keeping up with all the characters that were introduced as they were all brought in about the same time.

Review quote

I’m thirty-three years old and at a costume party dressed as a teenage Hermione Granger. We rarely comment on anything Daryl has done—she’s a grown-up, and as perfect as we think she already is, she’s doing it because she wants to and, well, it’s really none of our business. Amelia steps inside and sits on the arm of Daryl’s chair. As much as I’d like to be able to pull off a style like that myself, it’s never going to happen—but on her, it shows off her bright smile, luminous dark skin, and cheekbones for days.

At least with Daryl at my side that outcome would be funny, and we could drink and tease each other about how we ended up here on a Friday night. Here’s to hoping the Come As You Are theme held, because a girl who needs a time turner to get everything done each day is a perfect alter ego for a single woman working in Hollywood. Christina Lauren’s writing style is seamless. The characters and storyline of Date You Hating You were fun and refreshing.

I’m sure we can all agree, some men are just straight clueless in this arena or refuse to recognize there’s even an issue; making Carter’s view that much more refreshing. For both workaholic talent https://hookupranker.com/three-day-rule-review/ agents in Hollywood—with little effort or time given to seriously dating—this feels different somehow. There’s an easiness to Carter and Evie’s connection and a steady flow of flirty banter.
